Island View Park (Franklin County)

Island View Park (Franklin County)

Now re-opened! This seven-acre park, just east of Carrabelle, on St. George Sound on the Florida Panhandle is a great destination to launch kayaks, fish off a pier, or stroll along a boardwalk to watch for shorebirds and take in the waterfront views. This is a gorgeous place to view sunrises or sunsets.

“The site is a jewel, the adjacent grass flats are pristine, and the view across the bay to Dog Island is unchanged from thousands of years ago,” says Franklin County Commissioner Cheryl Sanders. “With this acquisition, time will stand still on a section of the Florida coast.”

In October 2018, the eye of Hurricane Michael—one of the strongest storms to ever make landfall in the United States—came ashore just 45 miles from Carrabelle. Island View Park suffered severe damage and was closed for several years.

Island View Park in Carrabelle was re-opened to the public at 12:00 noon on Thursday, December 22, 2022, following a final walk-through inspection with County Staff, the Project Engineer, and District Commissioner Cheryl Sanders.

The park consists of two fishing piers, boardwalks, benches and porch-style swings. There are no bathroom facilities but there is a port-a-let available on site.
