Unearth a Week of Adventure with the Summer Reading Program 

The 2026 Summer Reading Program, “Unearth a Story,” digs in July 5-11 at the Franklin County Public Libraries with a variety of free activities for all ages. The week’s programs will explore stories, science, history, and creativity through interactive experiences inspired by archaeology, dinosaurs, fossils, ancient civilizations, earth science, and America 250. Designed to spark curiosity, inspire exploration, promote literacy, and encourage community engagement, all programs are open to the public and no library card is required.

In addition, both branches will host a Summer Reading Challenge, America 250 activities and interactive displays including opportunities to track reading goals, attend programs, and earn prizes, participate in patriotic crafts or coloring stations, pick up a pocket Constitution and Declaration of Independence, and enjoy archaeology, dinosaurs, fossils, and exploration themed decorations.

Week Four (July 5 – July 11) at Eastpoint

  • Monday, July 6 – American Flag Key Chains at the Eastpoint Branch at 2 PM. Participants will create patriotic key chains inspired by the American flag as part of the library’s America 250 programming.

 

  • Wednesday, July 8 – Unusual American Roadside Attractions at the Eastpoint Branch at 2 PM. Guests will explore quirky and famous roadside attractions across America through trivia, storytelling, and creative activities tied to travel and Americana.

 

Also at Carrabelle: 

  • Tuesday, July 7 – American Flag Key Chains at the Carrabelle Branch at 2 PM. Participants will create patriotic key chains inspired by the American flag as part of the library’s America 250 programming.
  • Thursday, July 9 – Unusual American Roadside Attractions at the Carrabelle Branch at 2 PM. Guests will explore quirky and famous roadside attractions across America through trivia, storytelling, and creative activities tied to travel and Americana.

Summer Reading is an annual program that brings children, teens, and families to local public libraries for reading and activities. The Summer Reading Program encourages lifelong reading, supports reluctant readers, helps children maintain their skills over the summer, promotes use of the library and books, and provides fun opportunities for family time.
