SUMMARY:Twilight at the Tower & Plein Air Painting Demo
DESCRIPTION:The Crooked River Lighthouse and the Carrabelle Artist Association will be hosting Twilight at the Tower on Sunday\, March 1\, 2026 from 4:00-7:00 pm ET in Carrabelle\, FL. This special event invites visitors to enjoy after-hours museum visits\, gift shop browsing\, a glowing bonfire\, tower climbs\, and the gorgeous natural surroundings of St. George Sound and Carrabelle Beach as evening falls and the moon rises. Plus guests will be treated to a plein air painting demonstration by Julie Bowman Williams\, oil & pastel artist. Admission is free and climbs are $6 for the public and free for current members and for those under 12 with a ticketed adult. Climb reservations are available in the gift shop or online at crookedriverlighthouse.com/full-moon-events/. \nJulie Bowman Williams\, artist and demonstrator will paint and comment on scene composition\, choices of colors\, and the drawing from life and photographs. Other Plein Air painters may be painting with their own composition and choice of materials. As an artist\, Julie was recently selected to be in the Chain of Parks in Tallahassee. Her artwork was used for advertising. She uses intense color using oils\, acrylics and pastels. Free Event with Snacks and Beverages. This event is a prelude to the Forgotten Coast in Plein Air event which will happen March 20-29 in Franklin and Gulf counties with a special reception in Carrabelle on Tuesday\, March 24. \nThe Keeper’s House Museum will be open for after-hours tours featuring the lighthouse’s original Fresnel lens constructed in 1894 in Paris\, France. The lighthouse gift shop will offer a variety of unique nautical gifts and souvenirs\, and the Beacon Bistro will have delicious baked goodies\, popcorn\, hot chocolate\, and s’more kits available by donation. A glowing bonfire will create a perfect atmosphere for folks to kick back\, relax and enjoy the evening. As the sky shifts from watercolor hues to deep evening blues\, visitors are welcome to bring a chair and unwind on the lighthouse grounds.  \nVisitors seeking an unforgettable experience can enjoy twilight tower climbs to the top of the tallest lighthouse on the Forgotten Coast. From the top\, climbers will be treated to panoramic views of St. George Sound\, Carrabelle Beach and the beautiful colors of the evening sky. Evening climbs are scheduled at 15-minute intervals and cost $6 for the public and free for current members. Climb reservations are encouraged due to limited availability. Library programs are free and open to the public with no library card required.  \nA Tech Help session is scheduled for Tuesday\, March 10 at 11 AM at the Carrabelle Branch. Patrons may receive one-on-one assistance with devices\, email\, digital resources\, and more. No registration is required; drop-ins are welcome. \nNovels & Nibbles: Book Club will meet on Tuesday\, March 10 from 12–1:30 PM at the Eastpoint Branch to discuss the month’s selection\, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo by Steig Larsson. Light refreshments will be served. \nCreation Station: Make your own Volcano\, a program where children ages 7–12 can make a baking soda and vinegar volcano which will bubble\, fizz and explode with fun. The program will be held on Wednesday\, March 11 at 4:00 PM at the Eastpoint Branch. \nAdult Crafternoon: Upcycled Bunny w/ Scrap Fabric will take place on Thursday\, March 12 at 2:30 PM at the Eastpoint Branch. At this workshop guests will be using a precut cardboard bunny and using scrap fabric to create a cute bunny. This easy hands-on program will be provided in a relaxed\, welcoming setting and is open to adults of all skill levels.   \nVideo Game Hour will be held on Friday\, March 13 at 4:30 PM at the Carrabelle Branch. Teens and tweens are invited to unwind and compete on the Nintendo Switch during this fun and casual gaming hour.  \nPI Day at the Library will be offered on Saturday\, March 14 at 1:00 PM at the Eastpoint Branch. DESCRIPTION:Camp Gordon Johnston WWII Museum in Carrabelle is presenting a special exhibit about the Battle of Iwo Jima. This exhibit will open Friday\, March 6 and will be on display at the museum until Saturday\, March 28\, 2026. The museum is open every Tuesday through Saturday from 11 am to 5 pm ET and there is no charge for admission.  \n  \nThe Battle of Iwo Jima was one of the most important and hardest-fought amphibious battles of World War II. From February 19 to March 26\, 1945\, American forces attacked the small\, heavily defended island to secure its airfields and use them to support bombing missions against Japan. Marines from the 3rd\, 4th\, and 5th Marine Divisions landed on narrow beaches under heavy artillery\, mortar\, and small arms fire and quickly faced fierce resistance. Japanese troops were dug into bunkers\, caves\, and tunnels\, making every step forward dangerous. The battle was one of the bloodiest in the Pacific\, with nearly 7\,000 Americans killed and many more wounded.  After weeks of hard combat\, the island was secured and the famous flag raising on Mount Suribachi became a powerful symbol of courage and sacrifice. \n  \nAlthough Marines led the assault\, many Army and Navy units played key support roles. The U.S. Army’s 147th Infantry Regiment helped clear the island\, and Navy Seabees repaired airfields so planes could quickly use them. Among them were several Amphibious Truck Companies—the 471st\, 473rd\, and 476th— that trained at Camp Gordon Johnston. Landing under fire\, they moved supplies\, carried ammunition\, rescued stranded equipment\, and evacuated wounded soldiers from the beaches using DUKW amphibious vehicles. These units served alongside the 4th Marine Division and took part in heavy fighting. Throughout the month\, the Camp Gordon Johnston Museum will have a special exhibit commemorating the anniversary of the Iwo Jima Battle. DESCRIPTION:Camp Gordon Johnston WWII Museum proudly presents the Annual Camp Gordon Johnston Veterans Parade on Saturday\, March 14\, at 10:45 am ET in Carrabelle\, FL. This event honors and celebrates our country’s remaining WWII veterans as well as recognizes and salutes all veterans from WWII to present. All veterans\, their family\, friends and the general public are invited to join in this meaningful celebration of our military veterans. The museum needs the community’s participation and support to make this year’s event more special than ever for our veterans. \nThe Camp Gordon Johnston Parade pays tribute to all veterans of all branches of service. This community parade will feature vintage museum vehicles like the WWII DUKW\, Willis Jeep\, and German Lieferwagen as well as restored military vehicles from the Military Vehicle Preservation Association and Florida Military Vehicle Heritage Group. In addition\, the parade will be joined by several veteran organizations\, motorcycle groups\, Shriners clubs\, many businesses and community organizations. Military and police vehicles\, golf carts\, classic cars\, patriotic walkers\, and even some patriotic pets will wind through downtown Carrabelle along US Hwy 98.  \nCamp Gordon Johnston Museum invites everyone to participate in the parade and there is no cost to be in the parade. SUMMARY:2026 Forgotten Coast en Plein Air 
DESCRIPTION:Beaches\, lighthouses\, bayous\, pine forests\, palm trees\, fishing villages and vessels\, and historic small-town Southern architecture: The Forgotten Coast en Plein Air offers a dramatic array of inspiring settings. Located along a 100-mile stretch of scenic coastal towns on the Gulf in North Florida\, this 10-day invitational event takes place from March 20–29\, 2026\, bringing world-class plein air artists together to paint across eight Forgotten Coast communities. Now in its 21st year\, the event offers residents and visitors an interactive arts experience and kicks off with the popular Quickdraw paintout\, where artists capture the beauty of the region in real time. The Quickdraw will be judged by celebrated contemporary impressionist Lori Putnam\, an award-winning oil painter and Master Signature Member of the Oil Painters of America (OPAM) whose expressive works\, which are shaped by painting and teaching in more than 30 countries\, are exhibited and collected worldwide.  \nActivities take place every day throughout the event and include painting demonstrations\, lunch and learns\, wetroom\, gala\, painting stations with plein air artists\, Student Art Day\, and a plein air gospel service on the waterfront. Student Art Day\, a cherished highlight of the event since 2007\, pairs selected Gulf and Franklin County students one-on-one with artists to create plein air paintings. The students’ work will be exhibited March 25–29 at The Joe Center for the Arts in Port St. Joe. All demonstrations and receptions are free and open to the public. SUMMARY:Special Exhibit: Battle of Iwo Jima
DESCRIPTION:Camp Gordon Johnston WWII Museum in Carrabelle is presenting a special exhibit about the Battle of Iwo Jima. This exhibit will open Friday\, March 6 and will be on display at the museum until Saturday\, March 28\, 2026. The museum is open every Tuesday through Saturday from 11 am to 5 pm ET and there is no charge for admission.  \n  \nThe Battle of Iwo Jima was one of the most important and hardest-fought amphibious battles of World War II. From February 19 to March 26\, 1945\, American forces attacked the small\, heavily defended island to secure its airfields and use them to support bombing missions against Japan. Marines from the 3rd\, 4th\, and 5th Marine Divisions landed on narrow beaches under heavy artillery\, mortar\, and small arms fire and quickly faced fierce resistance. Japanese troops were dug into bunkers\, caves\, and tunnels\, making every step forward dangerous. The battle was one of the bloodiest in the Pacific\, with nearly 7\,000 Americans killed and many more wounded.  After weeks of hard combat\, the island was secured and the famous flag raising on Mount Suribachi became a powerful symbol of courage and sacrifice. \n  \nAlthough Marines led the assault\, many Army and Navy units played key support roles. The U.S. Army’s 147th Infantry Regiment helped clear the island\, and Navy Seabees repaired airfields so planes could quickly use them. Among them were several Amphibious Truck Companies—the 471st\, 473rd\, and 476th— that trained at Camp Gordon Johnston. Landing under fire\, they moved supplies\, carried ammunition\, rescued stranded equipment\, and evacuated wounded soldiers from the beaches using DUKW amphibious vehicles. These units served alongside the 4th Marine Division and took part in heavy fighting. Throughout the month\, the Camp Gordon Johnston Museum will have a special exhibit commemorating the anniversary of the Iwo Jima Battle. Displays will include photos\, video\, and artifacts including some from the Marine Corps. \n  \nCamp Gordon Johnston WWII Museum is located in Carrabelle\, directly across from Carrabelle Public Beach Park at 1873 Hwy 98 West. This cultural event is a free celebration of local culture\, art\, music\, history\, food\, and fun at the Carrabelle History Museum and throughout downtown Carrabelle. This is a fantastic chance for visitors to have some fun and experience the wonderful local culture of Carrabelle. The Carrabelle History Museum is located at SE 106 Avenue B\, Carrabelle\, FL.\n\nThe Crawl will bring live music and entertainment to the streets of Carrabelle\, with Florida folk music\, classic country\, modern hits\, gospel\, and oldies. A variety of musicians will be performing including Frank Lindamood\, Sumpin’ Old & Sumpin’ New\, Jhaki and Robert Davis\, Elijah Cole Allen\, and Shaken & Stirred. Visitors will spot fun\, costumed characters from the Fishy Fashion Show by Joan Matey wandering the streets. These walking photo ops are a fan-favorite. Plus\, the talented Lydia Countryman and friends will delight the crowd with their life-size dog puppets walking the streets.\n\nArt will abound at the Crawl featuring local artists and artisans. Visitors can watch as artists paint “plein air” offering a glimpse at the creative process in action. Shops and galleries will feature lots of artwork available for viewing and buying. The always popular public art drawing and coloring activity will be hung in storefront windows as well as sidewalk chalk and other family friendly art activities. There will be special activities at the Rio Carrabelle Gallery for kids and adults. Guests can also stroll over to see Carrabelle’s two large\, stunning murals.\n\nClassic\, vintage\, and modern cars will roll into the Crawl\, offering a stunning showcase for auto enthusiasts. Visitors can also enjoy demos and displays highlighting traditional skills that connect with the craftsmanship of the past. Features include quilting\, cast net throwing\, blacksmithing\, clay pottery\, turpentining\, rug making\, arrowheads\, spears and more.\n\nCarrabelle’s food scene will shine with favorites like shrimp and crab cakes\, plus hearty options like burgers and mile-high deli sandwiches. Sweet treats include donuts\, smoothies and energy teas. Plus local food trucks will be serving up even more delicious options including Sour Puss Gourmet Lemonade with a variety of delicious\, refreshing lemonades and Dave’s Dawg House with Dave’s All-Beef Dawgs or Smoked Sausage Dawgs.\n\nSeveral talented authors\, including Michael Kinnett\, Kermit Brown\, Royce Rolstad\, Charles Schultz and Shelby Day\, will be participating\, signing and discussing their books.
