SUMMARY:Art Exhibition featuring Roger Leonard
DESCRIPTION:The Gallery at Rio Carrabelle is excited to be presenting a remarkable art exhibition featuring the art of Roger Leonard in the historic art venue\, Rio Carrabelle in Carrabelle\, Florida. Roger’s exhibit\, primarily marine landscapes\, is realistic\, moody and stunning. This impressive exhibition is on display now and will run through February. \nRoger Leonard graduated from Ringling School of Art in Sarasota\, Florida in 1974 and has won numerous awards. He worked in commercial art for over 20 years making advertising art and illustrations as well as creating many portraits and murals. After 20 years of commercial art\, Roger turned to fine art and sought the freedom of painting only for himself. “Art for me is strictly my need to do it. I need to capture the time\, place\, feeling of being there\, of knowing my subjects intimately. I work hard and try to make it work visually. What it means\, I don’t know and I don’t care. The joy for me is the creating and the painting\, then watching and listening to those who enjoy it also. When I hear people’s comments like\, “I know that place – I can feel the heat – I can smell the rain\, the sea – I’d really like to walk there – That looks like what I feel\,” then I know they sense what I saw.” says Roger Leonard. \nRoger lived and worked in a studio/home on Dog Island for 15 years\, in a rural and isolated environment that inspired him. He now divides his time between Dog Island and his home and studio on River Road in Carrabelle. His professional affiliations include the National Oil and Acrylic Painters’ Society\, Signature Member; Oil Painters of America; American Society of Marine Artists; and American Impressionists Society\, Inc. \nRio Carrabelle Art Gallery is open Tuesdays – Saturdays from 10 am – 3 pm at 102 St. James Avenue (US Hwy 98)\, Carrabelle\, Florida. Rio Carrabelle is a unique non-profit art & music destination located in beautiful downtown Carrabelle. Visit riocarrabelle.com or on Facebook\, The Gallery At Rio Carrabelle\, for more information. \nThe Meet the Artist Reception has been postponed and is being rescheduled due to Hurricane Ian. Stay tuned for more information on the Meet the Artist Reception.

The joy for me is the creating and the painting\, then watching and listening to those who enjoy it also. SUMMARY:Special Exhibit on Operation Market Garden
DESCRIPTION:Camp Gordon Johnston WWII Museum in Carrabelle is presenting a special exhibit on Operation Market Garden. This exhibit will be on display at the museum from Tuesday\, September 6 until Saturday\, October 1. The museum is open every Tuesday through Saturday from 11 am to 5 pm. There is no charge for admission\, but donations are gladly accepted. \nOperation Market Garden (September 17th – 27th\, 1944) was the attempt to establish control of the bridge over the Rhine at Arnhem on the border of Germany and the Netherlands. This involved the combined efforts of the First Allied Airborne and the XXX Corps of the British 2nd Army. The battle was unsuccessful for a variety of reasons\, including the dependence on a single raised highway the ground forces had to use to link up with airborne troops (US\, British and Polish) dropped at the three bridges. \nThis exhibit presents the military commanders from both the Allied and the German forces\, and presents information of the Horsa and Waco gliders\, as well as the Douglas C47 Skytrain aircraft used to bring troops and equipment from England. \nThe battle was commemorated in the 1977 film\, “A Bridge Too Far”. “Band of Brothers”\, a miniseries from HBO in 2001\, also depicted the 101st Airborne’s part in this battle. They landed near Eindhoven and Veghel. \nCamp Gordon Johnston WWII Museum is located at 1873 Hwy 98 West\, directly across from the very beach where the beach assault training occurred in 1942-1943. Carrabelle Beach was the site of many practice beach assault landings. For more information\, contact Camp Gordon Johnston Museum at (850) 697-8575 or museum@campgordonjohnston.com. Funded in part by the Franklin County Tourist Development Council.

SUMMARY:Special Exhibit on Operation Torch
DESCRIPTION:Camp Gordon Johnston WWII Museum in Carrabelle is presenting a special exhibit on the Campaign in North Africa called Operation Torch. This exhibit will be on display at the museum from Tuesday\, July 12 until Saturday\, September 3. The museum is open every Tuesday through Saturday from 11 am to 5 pm.
