The museum and exhibit are open Wednesdays 12-5 pm\, Thursdays through Saturdays 10 am-5 pm and Sundays 12-5 pm.\n\n\nThis exhibit will explore innovations\, inventions and adaptations that impacted life in Carrabelle\nin small and large ways. Through time the people who lived here have modified existing tools and items to make them work better\, repurposed them for an entirely new use or adapted to the changes around them. DESCRIPTION:Camp Gordon Johnston WWII Museum in Carrabelle proudly presents a month long exhibit on U.S. Women in WWII. This exhibit will open Tuesday\, October 3 and will be on display at the museum until Saturday\, October 28. The museum is open every Tuesday through Saturday from 11 am to 5 pm. There is no charge for admission\, but donations are gladly accepted.\n\nAmerican women served in the war effort as members of the WACs\, WAVEs\, SPARs and in the US Marine Corps as well as civilians in the war industries throughout the country. This exhibit will explain the role of women\, highlighting individuals like US Navy Flight Nurses\, who were the first women to arrive at battles like Iwo Jima and Okinawa. The exhibit will feature artifacts including uniforms\, handbooks and even a practice aptitude test given to women applicants hoping to enlist. DESCRIPTION:Camp Gordon Johnston WWII Museum in Carrabelle proudly presents a month long exhibit on U.S. Women in WWII. This exhibit will open Tuesday\, October 3 and will be on display at the museum until Saturday\, October 28. The museum is open every Tuesday through Saturday from 11 am to 5 pm. There is no charge for admission\, but donations are gladly accepted.\n\nAmerican women served in the war effort as members of the WACs\, WAVEs\, SPARs and in the US Marine Corps as well as civilians in the war industries throughout the country. This exhibit will explain the role of women\, highlighting individuals like US Navy Flight Nurses\, who were the first women to arrive at battles like Iwo Jima and Okinawa. The exhibit will feature artifacts including uniforms\, handbooks and even a practice aptitude test given to women applicants hoping to enlist. Upcoming markets will be: Sept 30\, Oct 7\, Oct 21\, Nov 4\, Nov 18\, Dec 2\, Dec 16\, and Dec 30. \nThe open-air market\, at the foot of the lighthouse\, features local vendors with perfect gifts and goodies like farm-fresh produce\, grass-fed beef\, delicious baked goods like cinnamon rolls and artisan breads and cookies\, batch roasted coffee\, gorgeous art\, handcrafted balms and soaps\, and handmade goods and craft items. \nGuests can also visit the free Museum and browse inside the Lighthouse Gift Shop for unique\, nautical-themed holiday gifts. In addition\, shoppers have the unique opportunity to climb to the top of the lighthouse for a breathtaking view of the Bay. \nThe Market is actively recruiting new and returning vendors. Guests can also browse new artwork recently put on display by Roger Leonard\, Joe Kotzman\, William Owen\, Pat Moore\, Barb Ryan\, and Bo May. Guests can enjoy the gorgeous paintings and art of these gifted\, local artists while enjoying the sounds of some fabulous\, live music along with lively conversation in a laid-back\, fun atmosphere.\n\n\nCal Allen has expressed his southern heritage through his art for over 60 years. His attention to the details of the coast and his love of nature co-mingle to produce his naturalistic approach. From the lighthouses of North Carolina’s outer banks\, the marshes of coastal Georgia\, and the mudflats of Northwest Florida’s Gulf Coast comes the inspiration for much of Cal’s work. SUMMARY:Special Exhibit: U.S. Women in WWII
DESCRIPTION:Camp Gordon Johnston WWII Museum in Carrabelle proudly presents a month long exhibit on U.S. Women in WWII. This exhibit will open Tuesday\, October 3 and will be on display at the museum until Saturday\, October 28. The museum is open every Tuesday through Saturday from 11 am to 5 pm. There is no charge for admission\, but donations are gladly accepted.\n\nAmerican women served in the war effort as members of the WACs\, WAVEs\, SPARs and in the US Marine Corps as well as civilians in the war industries throughout the country. This exhibit will explain the role of women\, highlighting individuals like US Navy Flight Nurses\, who were the first women to arrive at battles like Iwo Jima and Okinawa. The exhibit will feature artifacts including uniforms\, handbooks and even a practice aptitude test given to women applicants hoping to enlist. Camp Gordon Johnston Museum will also remember and honor many of the local women of Franklin County who served in WWII.\n\nCamp Gordon Johnston WWII Museum is located in Carrabelle\, directly across from Carrabelle Public Beach Park at 1873 Hwy 98 West. In honor of this day\, Camp Gordon Johnston WWII Museum\, Carrabelle History Museum\, and Crooked River Lighthouse Museum invite you to Carrabelle FL for special activities and exhibits. Camp Gordon Johnston Museum will be open from 11 am – 5 pm. Carrabelle History Museum will be open from 10 am – 5 pm. Crooked River Lighthouse will be open from 9 am – 5 pm for this event. Guests can also enjoy the Country Farmer’s Market from 9 am-1 pm at Crooked River Lighthouse Park with local crafts\, baked goods and area produce. \nEach year\, Museum Day goes beyond getting visitors through museum doors; it shines a spotlight on incredible culture\, sciences\, innovation and history exhibits. This year Carrabelle is celebrating the theme\, “Innovation and Technology in History” and each of Carrabelle’s three history museums will each commemorate it with their own unique focus and interpretation. \nCamp Gordon Johnston Museum will feature newly discovered sunken vessels from the Battle of Midway that recent technological advances have made possible as well as some of the technology used during WWII. They will also have their vintage military vehicles on display. Carrabelle History Museum will highlight the prehistoric tools from our area’s native peoples\, innovations in turpentine including the Herty pot\, sponge diving technology\, and advancements in shipbuilding from the late 1800s. Crooked River Lighthouse will focus on part of their new Fresnel lens exhibit to include Augustin Fresnel’s development of a superior light bending apparatus which vastly improved the efficiency of lighthouse lamps\, early inventors in light science\, the evolution of fuels\, and signaling innovations. Funded in part by the Franklin County Tourist Development Council. \nINFORMATION ON THE MUSEUMS \nCamp Gordon Johnston WWII Museum – Honors the military men and women as well as civilian personnel who trained and worked in Carrabelle and Franklin County during 1942 through 1946. The museum houses numerous displays of military artifacts\, photos and memorabilia of many types. Plus the Motor Pool building displays the museum’s military vehicles on site – WWII DUKW\, German Lieferwagen\, and WWII Jeep. Camp Gordon Johnston WWII Museum is located at 1873 Highway 98 West\, directly across from Carrabelle Beach where military troops practiced D-Day beach assaults. SUMMARY:Special Exhibit: Battle of Midway and Doolittle's Raiders
DESCRIPTION:Camp Gordon Johnston WWII Museum in Carrabelle is presenting a special exhibit about the Battle of Midway and Doolittle’s Raiders. This exhibit will open Tuesday\, August 29 and will be on display at the museum until Saturday\, September 30.  The museum is open every Tuesday through Saturday from 11 am to 5 pm. There is no charge for admission\, but donations are gladly accepted. \nThe Battle of Midway was the inflection point in the fortunes of the US and the Empire of Japan. The failures of US Intelligence in December of 1941 to anticipate the Pearl Harbor attack were replaced by the huge success in identifying Midway as Japan’s next target. The destruction of many of the Japanese ships that carried out the Pearl Harbor attack was a much needed boost for US morale. In addition\, this exhibit will cover how many of these ships have recently been discovered thanks to 21st century technology. Their power and menace are still visible in the images taken of them almost 80 years after their demise. \nCamp Gordon Johnston WWII Museum is located in Carrabelle\, directly across from Carrabelle Public Beach Park at 1873 Hwy 98 West. DESCRIPTION:The Country Farmer’s Market will be held on held every 1st\, 3rd and 5th Saturdays from 9:00 am-1:00 pm at the Crooked River Lighthouse Park\, 1975 Hwy 98 West\, Carrabelle\, FL. Upcoming markets will be: Sept 30\, Oct 7\, Oct 21\, Nov 4\, Nov 18\, Dec 2\, Dec 16\, and Dec 30. \nThe open-air market\, at the foot of the lighthouse\, features local vendors with perfect gifts and goodies like farm-fresh produce\, grass-fed beef\, delicious baked goods like cinnamon rolls and artisan breads and cookies\, batch roasted coffee\, gorgeous art\, handcrafted balms and soaps\, and handmade goods and craft items. \nGuests can also visit the free Museum and browse inside the Lighthouse Gift Shop for unique\, nautical-themed holiday gifts. In addition\, shoppers have the unique opportunity to climb to the top of the lighthouse for a breathtaking view of the Bay. \nThe Market is actively recruiting new and returning vendors.
