SUMMARY:Special Exhibit: U.S. Women in WWII
DESCRIPTION:Camp Gordon Johnston WWII Museum in Carrabelle proudly presents a month long exhibit on U.S. Women in WWII. This exhibit will open Tuesday\, October 3 and will be on display at the museum until Saturday\, October 28. The museum is open every Tuesday through Saturday from 11 am to 5 pm. There is no charge for admission\, but donations are gladly accepted.\n\nAmerican women served in the war effort as members of the WACs\, WAVEs\, SPARs and in the US Marine Corps as well as civilians in the war industries throughout the country. This exhibit will explain the role of women\, highlighting individuals like US Navy Flight Nurses\, who were the first women to arrive at battles like Iwo Jima and Okinawa. The exhibit will feature artifacts including uniforms\, handbooks and even a practice aptitude test given to women applicants hoping to enlist. Camp Gordon Johnston Museum will also remember and honor many of the local women of Franklin County who served in WWII.\n\nCamp Gordon Johnston WWII Museum is located in Carrabelle\, directly across from Carrabelle Public Beach Park at 1873 Hwy 98 West. As part of this month’s First Friday\, Rio will be celebrating the opening for a new exhibit featuring talented artist\, Cal Allen. Guests can also browse new artwork recently put on display by Roger Leonard\, Joe Kotzman\, William Owen\, Pat Moore\, Barb Ryan\, and Bo May. Guests can enjoy the gorgeous paintings and art of these gifted\, local artists while enjoying the sounds of some fabulous\, live music along with lively conversation in a laid-back\, fun atmosphere.\n\n\nCal Allen has expressed his southern heritage through his art for over 60 years. His attention to the details of the coast and his love of nature co-mingle to produce his naturalistic approach. From the lighthouses of North Carolina’s outer banks\, the marshes of coastal Georgia\, and the mudflats of Northwest Florida’s Gulf Coast comes the inspiration for much of Cal’s work. DESCRIPTION:The Carrabelle History Museum is presenting a special exhibit about innovations and adaptations that impacted life in Carrabelle over the years. This exhibit will be on display from Wednesday\, October 4 through Sunday\, October 29. There is no charge for admission\, but donations are gladly accepted. The museum and exhibit are open Wednesdays 12-5 pm\, Thursdays through Saturdays 10 am-5 pm and Sundays 12-5 pm.\n\n\nThis exhibit will explore innovations\, inventions and adaptations that impacted life in Carrabelle\nin small and large ways. Through time the people who lived here have modified existing tools and items to make them work better\, repurposed them for an entirely new use or adapted to the changes around them. This display will highlight rebuilt tools for turpentining\, changes in fishing net design\, and improvements in early building construction.\n\n\nCarrabelle History Museum is located one block from the Carrabelle harbor\, at 106 SE Avenue B\, Carrabelle\, FL. DESCRIPTION:Camp Gordon Johnston WWII Museum in Carrabelle proudly presents a month long exhibit on U.S. Women in WWII. This exhibit will open Tuesday\, October 3 and will be on display at the museum until Saturday\, October 28. The museum is open every Tuesday through Saturday from 11 am to 5 pm. This exhibit will explain the role of women\, highlighting individuals like US Navy Flight Nurses\, who were the first women to arrive at battles like Iwo Jima and Okinawa. The exhibit will feature artifacts including uniforms\, handbooks and even a practice aptitude test given to women applicants hoping to enlist.
