Plus\, there will be book signings\, unique t-shirts\, vegetable seeds\, and exotic starter plants to explore. \nWhile you’re here\, don’t miss out on a visit to the free Keeper’s House Museum\, where you can marvel at our brand new exhibit featuring the historic Fresnel lens. SUMMARY:Special Exhibit: Foundations of Freedom - Carrabelle’s Role in America’s Story
DESCRIPTION:The Carrabelle History Museum is proud to present a featured exhibit\, “Foundations of Freedom – Carrabelle’s Role in America’s Story” made possible by a grant from the Duke Energy Foundation. This exhibit will officially open on Saturday\, July 4  and be on display until September 30\, with sneak preview opportunities available on July 2 and 3. This unique exhibit\, in honor of America’s 250th birthday\, tells the story of Carrabelle’s history\, independence\, democratic participation\, and civic identity through artifacts\, photographs\, and stories. Visitors can explore this exhibit on Wednesdays from 12 to 5 pm ET\, Thursdays through Saturdays from 10 am to 5 pm ET\, and Sundays from 12 to 5 pm ET. Admission is free\, with donations warmly welcomed. \nThe exhibit is supported in part through the Duke Energy Foundation’s America250 grant initiative\, which helps communities commemorate America’s upcoming 250th anniversary. Through this initiative\, the Duke Energy Foundation is investing in projects that inspire civic pride\, strengthen communities\, and celebrate the nation’s history.  \nThrough stories of Carrabelle’s mayors through time along with original artifacts\, large-scale historic photographs and interpretive signage\, the exhibit highlights how democracy functioned at the grassroots level and showcases civic leadership across generations. This project preserves and displays civic artifacts\, provides free access to historical education for residents and visitors\, and strengthens civic pride in Carrabelle’s role in America’s democratic journey. \nOther highlights of the exhibit include original ballot boxes\, paper ballots from 1909 and several periods of the 20th century\, 1940s municipal court log books\, city clerk journals\, and founding documents. These artifacts reveal how citizens voted\, resolved disputes\, and organized local government\, demonstrating how engaged citizens and elected officials helped shape the history of Carrabelle and Florida’s Forgotten Coast. Families and young visitors can also enjoy America250 activities\, including patriotic coloring sheets and word searches. \nHoused inside Carrabelle’s historic City Hall and using the very room where the justice of the peace\, municipal court\, city commission\, and mayors once governed\, the exhibit uses the building itself as both artifact and backdrop. SUMMARY:Special Exhibit on Operation Market Garden: A Bridge Too Far
DESCRIPTION:Camp Gordon Johnston WWII Museum in Carrabelle is presenting a special exhibit on Operation Market Garden. This exhibit will be on display at the museum from Tuesday\, September 1 until Saturday\, October 3.  The museum is open every Tuesday through Saturday from 11 am to 5 pm ET. There is no charge for admission\, but donations are gladly accepted.  \nOperation Market Garden (September 17th – 27th\, 1944) was the attempt to establish control of the bridge over the Rhine at Arnhem on the border of Germany and the Netherlands. This involved the combined efforts of the First Allied Airborne and the XXX Corps of the British 2nd Army. The battle was unsuccessful for a variety of reasons\, including the dependence on a single raised highway the ground forces had to use to link up with airborne troops (US\, British and Polish) dropped at the three bridges.  \nThis exhibit presents the military commanders from both the Allied and the German forces\, and presents information of the Horsa and Waco gliders\, as well as the Douglas C47 Skytrain aircraft used to bring troops and equipment from England. \nThe battle was commemorated in “A Bridge Too Far”\, the 1977 film.  “Band of Brothers”\, a miniseries from HBO in 2001\, also depicted the 101st Airborne’s part in this battle. They landed near Eindhoven and Veghel. \nCamp Gordon Johnston WWII Museum is located at 1873 Hwy 98 West\, directly across from the very beach where the beach assault training occurred in 1942-1943. This exhibit will officially open on Saturday\, July 4  and be on display until September 30\, with sneak preview opportunities available on July 2 and 3. This unique exhibit\, in honor of America’s 250th birthday\, tells the story of Carrabelle’s history\, independence\, democratic participation\, and civic identity through artifacts\, photographs\, and stories. Visitors can explore this exhibit on Wednesdays from 12 to 5 pm ET\, Thursdays through Saturdays from 10 am to 5 pm ET\, and Sundays from 12 to 5 pm ET. Admission is free\, with donations warmly welcomed. \nThe exhibit is supported in part through the Duke Energy Foundation’s America250 grant initiative\, which helps communities commemorate America’s upcoming 250th anniversary. Through this initiative\, the Duke Energy Foundation is investing in projects that inspire civic pride\, strengthen communities\, and celebrate the nation’s history.  \nThrough stories of Carrabelle’s mayors through time along with original artifacts\, large-scale historic photographs and interpretive signage\, the exhibit highlights how democracy functioned at the grassroots level and showcases civic leadership across generations. These artifacts reveal how citizens voted\, resolved disputes\, and organized local government\, demonstrating how engaged citizens and elected officials helped shape the history of Carrabelle and Florida’s Forgotten Coast. SUMMARY:Special Exhibit on Operation Market Garden: A Bridge Too Far
DESCRIPTION:Camp Gordon Johnston WWII Museum in Carrabelle is presenting a special exhibit on Operation Market Garden. This exhibit will be on display at the museum from Tuesday\, September 1 until Saturday\, October 3.  The museum is open every Tuesday through Saturday from 11 am to 5 pm ET. There is no charge for admission\, but donations are gladly accepted.  \nOperation Market Garden (September 17th – 27th\, 1944) was the attempt to establish control of the bridge over the Rhine at Arnhem on the border of Germany and the Netherlands. This involved the combined efforts of the First Allied Airborne and the XXX Corps of the British 2nd Army. The battle was unsuccessful for a variety of reasons\, including the dependence on a single raised highway the ground forces had to use to link up with airborne troops (US\, British and Polish) dropped at the three bridges.  \nThis exhibit presents the military commanders from both the Allied and the German forces\, and presents information of the Horsa and Waco gliders\, as well as the Douglas C47 Skytrain aircraft used to bring troops and equipment from England. \nThe battle was commemorated in “A Bridge Too Far”\, the 1977 film.  “Band of Brothers”\, a miniseries from HBO in 2001\, also depicted the 101st Airborne’s part in this battle. They landed near Eindhoven and Veghel. \nCamp Gordon Johnston WWII Museum is located at 1873 Hwy 98 West\, directly across from the very beach where the beach assault training occurred in 1942-1943. DESCRIPTION:Crooked River Lighthouse Hosts a Night of Magical History \nGlowing lanterns\, music\, dance and night tower climbs bring magic & history together. \n Lantern Fest will be celebrated on Saturday\, November 14\, 2026 from 6-10 pm ET on the park grounds at Crooked River Lighthouse Park\, 1975 Hwy 98 W\, Carrabelle\, FL. This unique\, outdoor festival\, best known for its stunning display of over a hundred colorful\, hanging lanterns\, lights up the night with magic and history at the 1895 maritime landmark. Special activities include live music\, dance performances\, evening tower climbs\, ancient craft demonstrations\, enchanting glowing lantern displays\, museum exhibits\, and delicious food and desserts.  \nOver a hundred colorful\, hanging lanterns will be displayed around the lighthouse grounds. Many of these lanterns are works of art and have been painstakingly hand-made by the incredible Joan Matey and other gifted local artists. Guests will also enjoy keeper’s tales\, the museum and gift shop\, Fresnel lens\, Lantern Ladies\, and the Giant Moth. DESCRIPTION:Join the Carrabelle Chamber of Commerce for 2026 Holiday on the Harbor Festival and Boat Parade of Lights on Saturday\, December 12 from 1-7 pm ET on Marine Street and along the harbor in Carrabelle\, FL. This festival will feature children’s activities\, arts and crafts vendors\, delicious food\, music\, dance\, and a lighted boat parade. This favorite Christmas tradition on the Forgotten Coast is free and family-friendly! \nThe children’s activities includes traditions like Visits with Santa\, mini-train rides\, a bouncy house (courtesy of the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department)\, and a book giveaway by Bring Me a Book Franklin. In keeping with the Carrabelle tradition\, Santa will make his grand entrance on the City of Carrabelle Fire Truck. Children and families are welcome to come by Santa’s booth\, visit with Santa\, and get their photos with Santa for free. \nThis festive event will offer yummy holiday treats and delicious food to enjoy. Guests can enjoy delicious fresh seafood and tasty home-style cooking at one of several cafes\, restaurants or festival food vendors. Shoppers can browse vendors with unique art and crafts\, and locally made goods—perfect for holiday gifting. Visitors can complete their holiday shopping with unique and one-of-a-kind items at Carrabelle’s wonderful shops and art galleries\, many within walking distance.  Live music will fill the air with performances by local artists. The entertainment doesn’t end there as there will also be a delightful performance by the Forgotten Coast Dancing Witches. \nAfter enjoying hours of food\, festivities\, and fun\, festival-goers are invited to watch the magical Christmas parade of boats decked out in lights\, décor\, and holiday outfits! Find a spot along the water and enjoy this parade with double the lights as the Carrabelle harbor beautifully reflects back the glow of the lighted boats.
