SUMMARY:Special Exhibit on Operation Market Garden: A Bridge Too Far
DESCRIPTION:Camp Gordon Johnston WWII Museum in Carrabelle is presenting a special exhibit on Operation Market Garden. This exhibit will be on display at the museum from Tuesday\, September 1 until Saturday\, October 3.  The museum is open every Tuesday through Saturday from 11 am to 5 pm ET. There is no charge for admission\, but donations are gladly accepted.  \nOperation Market Garden (September 17th – 27th\, 1944) was the attempt to establish control of the bridge over the Rhine at Arnhem on the border of Germany and the Netherlands. This involved the combined efforts of the First Allied Airborne and the XXX Corps of the British 2nd Army. The battle was unsuccessful for a variety of reasons\, including the dependence on a single raised highway the ground forces had to use to link up with airborne troops (US\, British and Polish) dropped at the three bridges.  \nThis exhibit presents the military commanders from both the Allied and the German forces\, and presents information of the Horsa and Waco gliders\, as well as the Douglas C47 Skytrain aircraft used to bring troops and equipment from England. \nThe battle was commemorated in “A Bridge Too Far”\, the 1977 film.  “Band of Brothers”\, a miniseries from HBO in 2001\, also depicted the 101st Airborne’s part in this battle. They landed near Eindhoven and Veghel. \nCamp Gordon Johnston WWII Museum is located at 1873 Hwy 98 West\, directly across from the very beach where the beach assault training occurred in 1942-1943. This project preserves and displays civic artifacts\, provides free access to historical education for residents and visitors\, and strengthens civic pride in Carrabelle’s role in America’s democratic journey. \nOther highlights of the exhibit include original ballot boxes\, paper ballots from 1909 and several periods of the 20th century\, 1940s municipal court log books\, city clerk journals\, and founding documents. These artifacts reveal how citizens voted\, resolved disputes\, and organized local government\, demonstrating how engaged citizens and elected officials helped shape the history of Carrabelle and Florida’s Forgotten Coast. Families and young visitors can also enjoy America250 activities\, including patriotic coloring sheets and word searches. \nHoused inside Carrabelle’s historic City Hall and using the very room where the justice of the peace\, municipal court\, city commission\, and mayors once governed\, the exhibit uses the building itself as both artifact and backdrop. This exhibit will be on display at the museum from Tuesday\, September 1 until Saturday\, October 3.  The museum is open every Tuesday through Saturday from 11 am to 5 pm ET. There is no charge for admission\, but donations are gladly accepted.  \nOperation Market Garden (September 17th – 27th\, 1944) was the attempt to establish control of the bridge over the Rhine at Arnhem on the border of Germany and the Netherlands. This involved the combined efforts of the First Allied Airborne and the XXX Corps of the British 2nd Army. The battle was unsuccessful for a variety of reasons\, including the dependence on a single raised highway the ground forces had to use to link up with airborne troops (US\, British and Polish) dropped at the three bridges.  \nThis exhibit presents the military commanders from both the Allied and the German forces\, and presents information of the Horsa and Waco gliders\, as well as the Douglas C47 Skytrain aircraft used to bring troops and equipment from England. \nThe battle was commemorated in “A Bridge Too Far”\, the 1977 film.  “Band of Brothers”\, a miniseries from HBO in 2001\, also depicted the 101st Airborne’s part in this battle. They landed near Eindhoven and Veghel. \nCamp Gordon Johnston WWII Museum is located at 1873 Hwy 98 West\, directly across from the very beach where the beach assault training occurred in 1942-1943. DESCRIPTION:The Crooked River Lighthouse invites visitors to Twilight at the Tower on Friday\, September 25 from 7:00-9:00 pm ET in Carrabelle\, FL. This relaxing evening event offers after-hours museum visits\, gift shop browsing\, twilight tower climbs\, and the peaceful natural surroundings of St. George Sound and Carrabelle Beach as evening falls. Admission is free. Evening climbs are $6 for the public\, free for current members and free for kids 12 and under with a ticketed adult.  \nThe Keeper’s House Museum will be open for special evening hours\, featuring the lighthouse’s original Fourth Order Fresnel lens\, constructed in Paris\, France\, in 1894. Visitors can also browse the lighthouse gift shop for unique nautical gifts and souvenirs. The Beacon Bistro will offer baked goodies\, popcorn\, and refreshments by donation. Guests are encouraged to kick back\, relax on the lighthouse grounds\, and enjoy a delightful evening beneath the summer sky as the Corn Moon rises over the Forgotten Coast. \nFor those looking for an unforgettable view\, twilight tower climbs provide a chance to experience the tallest lighthouse on the Forgotten Coast from the top. Climbers can take in panoramic views of St. George Sound\, Carrabelle Beach\, and the beautiful colors of the horizon as dusk settles over the coast. \nAdvance climb tickets are encouraged. SUMMARY:Special Exhibit on Operation Market Garden: A Bridge Too Far
DESCRIPTION:Camp Gordon Johnston WWII Museum in Carrabelle is presenting a special exhibit on Operation Market Garden. This exhibit will be on display at the museum from Tuesday\, September 1 until Saturday\, October 3.  The museum is open every Tuesday through Saturday from 11 am to 5 pm ET. There is no charge for admission\, but donations are gladly accepted.  \nOperation Market Garden (September 17th – 27th\, 1944) was the attempt to establish control of the bridge over the Rhine at Arnhem on the border of Germany and the Netherlands. This involved the combined efforts of the First Allied Airborne and the XXX Corps of the British 2nd Army. The battle was unsuccessful for a variety of reasons\, including the dependence on a single raised highway the ground forces had to use to link up with airborne troops (US\, British and Polish) dropped at the three bridges.  \nThis exhibit presents the military commanders from both the Allied and the German forces\, and presents information of the Horsa and Waco gliders\, as well as the Douglas C47 Skytrain aircraft used to bring troops and equipment from England. \nThe battle was commemorated in “A Bridge Too Far”\, the 1977 film.  “Band of Brothers”\, a miniseries from HBO in 2001\, also depicted the 101st Airborne’s part in this battle. They landed near Eindhoven and Veghel. \nCamp Gordon Johnston WWII Museum is located at 1873 Hwy 98 West\, directly across from the very beach where the beach assault training occurred in 1942-1943.
