SUMMARY:Tech Help\, Video Game Hour and Hurricane Preparation at the Carrabelle Branch
DESCRIPTION:The Friends of the Franklin County Public Libraries (FFCPL) announces a week of creative\, engaging\, and relaxed programs at the Franklin County Public Libraries. All programs are free and open to the public with no library card required. Note: both branches will be closed Monday\, September 7 in recognition of Labor Day. \nThe Tech Help session will return on Tuesday\, September 1 at 11 am at the Carrabelle Branch. Patrons will receive personalized\, one-on-one tech assistance with devices\, email\, digital resources\, and more. No registration is required; drop-ins are welcome. \nVideo Game Hour will be held on Thursday\, September 3\, at 4:30 pm at the Carrabelle Branch\, teens and tweens are invited to unwind and compete on the Nintendo Switch during these fun and casual gaming hours.  \nIn conjunction with Franklin County Emergency Management\, a Hurricane Preparation event is scheduled for Friday\, September 4 at 2 pm at the Carrabelle Branch. Residents can learn about hurricane and emergency preparedness\, sign up for Alert Franklin notifications\, special needs registry\, transportation disadvantaged program\, and information about local emergency resources. Franklin County Emergency Management staff will be available to answer questions and provide enrollment assistance. \nAlso this week at Eastpoint: \nMahjong Club meets for open play Tuesday\, September 1 from 1 pm to 4 pm at the Eastpoint Branch. All players are invited to join in the fun. \nStory Time will take place on Wednesday\, September 2 at 10:30 a.m. at the Eastpoint Branch. This week’s book is Don’t Trust a Fish. Each week\, Story Time brings stories to life through soundscapes\, colorful visual aids\, hands-on crafts\, and simple games that encourage imagination\, listening skills\, and early literacy. \nThese programs are supported by the Friends of the Franklin County Public Libraries\, a 501(c)(3) organization. SUMMARY:Special Exhibit on Operation Market Garden: A Bridge Too Far
DESCRIPTION:Camp Gordon Johnston WWII Museum in Carrabelle is presenting a special exhibit on Operation Market Garden. This exhibit will be on display at the museum from Tuesday\, September 1 until Saturday\, October 3.  The museum is open every Tuesday through Saturday from 11 am to 5 pm ET. There is no charge for admission\, but donations are gladly accepted.  \nOperation Market Garden (September 17th – 27th\, 1944) was the attempt to establish control of the bridge over the Rhine at Arnhem on the border of Germany and the Netherlands. This involved the combined efforts of the First Allied Airborne and the XXX Corps of the British 2nd Army. The battle was unsuccessful for a variety of reasons\, including the dependence on a single raised highway the ground forces had to use to link up with airborne troops (US\, British and Polish) dropped at the three bridges.  \nThis exhibit presents the military commanders from both the Allied and the German forces\, and presents information of the Horsa and Waco gliders\, as well as the Douglas C47 Skytrain aircraft used to bring troops and equipment from England. \nThe battle was commemorated in “A Bridge Too Far”\, the 1977 film.  “Band of Brothers”\, a miniseries from HBO in 2001\, also depicted the 101st Airborne’s part in this battle. They landed near Eindhoven and Veghel. \nCamp Gordon Johnston WWII Museum is located at 1873 Hwy 98 West\, directly across from the very beach where the beach assault training occurred in 1942-1943. SUMMARY:Special Exhibit: Foundations of Freedom - Carrabelle’s Role in America’s Story
DESCRIPTION:The Carrabelle History Museum is proud to present a featured exhibit\, “Foundations of Freedom – Carrabelle’s Role in America’s Story” made possible by a grant from the Duke Energy Foundation. This exhibit will officially open on Saturday\, July 4  and be on display until September 30\, with sneak preview opportunities available on July 2 and 3. This unique exhibit\, in honor of America’s 250th birthday\, tells the story of Carrabelle’s history\, independence\, democratic participation\, and civic identity through artifacts\, photographs\, and stories. Visitors can explore this exhibit on Wednesdays from 12 to 5 pm ET\, Thursdays through Saturdays from 10 am to 5 pm ET\, and Sundays from 12 to 5 pm ET. Admission is free\, with donations warmly welcomed. \nThe exhibit is supported in part through the Duke Energy Foundation’s America250 grant initiative\, which helps communities commemorate America’s upcoming 250th anniversary. Through this initiative\, the Duke Energy Foundation is investing in projects that inspire civic pride\, strengthen communities\, and celebrate the nation’s history.  \nThrough stories of Carrabelle’s mayors through time along with original artifacts\, large-scale historic photographs and interpretive signage\, the exhibit highlights how democracy functioned at the grassroots level and showcases civic leadership across generations. This project preserves and displays civic artifacts\, provides free access to historical education for residents and visitors\, and strengthens civic pride in Carrabelle’s role in America’s democratic journey. \nOther highlights of the exhibit include original ballot boxes\, paper ballots from 1909 and several periods of the 20th century\, 1940s municipal court log books\, city clerk journals\, and founding documents. These artifacts reveal how citizens voted\, resolved disputes\, and organized local government\, demonstrating how engaged citizens and elected officials helped shape the history of Carrabelle and Florida’s Forgotten Coast. Families and young visitors can also enjoy America250 activities\, including patriotic coloring sheets and word searches. \nHoused inside Carrabelle’s historic City Hall and using the very room where the justice of the peace\, municipal court\, city commission\, and mayors once governed\, the exhibit uses the building itself as both artifact and backdrop. The exhibit brings Carrabelle’s founding story and civic heritage to life inside the room where local democracy unfolded for decades.  \nSponsored by the Duke Energy Foundation.
