DESCRIPTION:The Friends of the Franklin County Public Libraries (FFCPL) announces a week filled with creativity\, connection\, and community at the Eastpoint and Carrabelle Branches of the Franklin County Public Libraries through their popular Program Series. Library programs are free and open to the public with no library card required.  \nA Tech Help session is scheduled for Tuesday\, March 10 at 11 AM at the Carrabelle Branch. Patrons may receive one-on-one assistance with devices\, email\, digital resources\, and more. No registration is required; drop-ins are welcome. \nNovels & Nibbles: Book Club will meet on Tuesday\, March 10 from 12–1:30 PM at the Eastpoint Branch to discuss the month’s selection\, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo by Steig Larsson. Light refreshments will be served. \nCreation Station: Make your own Volcano\, a program where children ages 7–12 can make a baking soda and vinegar volcano which will bubble\, fizz and explode with fun. The program will be held on Wednesday\, March 11 at 4:00 PM at the Eastpoint Branch. \nAdult Crafternoon: Upcycled Bunny w/ Scrap Fabric will take place on Thursday\, March 12 at 2:30 PM at the Eastpoint Branch. At this workshop guests will be using a precut cardboard bunny and using scrap fabric to create a cute bunny. This easy hands-on program will be provided in a relaxed\, welcoming setting and is open to adults of all skill levels.   \nVideo Game Hour will be held on Friday\, March 13 at 4:30 PM at the Carrabelle Branch. Teens and tweens are invited to unwind and compete on the Nintendo Switch during this fun and casual gaming hour.  \nPI Day at the Library will be offered on Saturday\, March 14 at 1:00 PM at the Eastpoint Branch. Patrons will celebrate everyone’s favorite irrational number with a day full of math\, creativity\, and of course\, pie. Guests will enjoy pizza\, Moon pies\, hands-on math and STEM activities\, creative PI art and bracelet stations\, measuring challenges\, door prizes\, and fun facts about PI. This session is free and open to all ages.  \nThese programs are supported by the Friends of the Franklin County Public Libraries\, a 501(c)(3) organization that supports the Eastpoint and Carrabelle branches. SUMMARY:Special Exhibit: Battle of Iwo Jima
DESCRIPTION:Camp Gordon Johnston WWII Museum in Carrabelle is presenting a special exhibit about the Battle of Iwo Jima. This exhibit will open Friday\, March 6 and will be on display at the museum until Saturday\, March 28\, 2026. The museum is open every Tuesday through Saturday from 11 am to 5 pm ET and there is no charge for admission.  \n  \nThe Battle of Iwo Jima was one of the most important and hardest-fought amphibious battles of World War II. From February 19 to March 26\, 1945\, American forces attacked the small\, heavily defended island to secure its airfields and use them to support bombing missions against Japan. Marines from the 3rd\, 4th\, and 5th Marine Divisions landed on narrow beaches under heavy artillery\, mortar\, and small arms fire and quickly faced fierce resistance. Japanese troops were dug into bunkers\, caves\, and tunnels\, making every step forward dangerous. The battle was one of the bloodiest in the Pacific\, with nearly 7\,000 Americans killed and many more wounded.  After weeks of hard combat\, the island was secured and the famous flag raising on Mount Suribachi became a powerful symbol of courage and sacrifice. \n  \nAlthough Marines led the assault\, many Army and Navy units played key support roles. The U.S. Army’s 147th Infantry Regiment helped clear the island\, and Navy Seabees repaired airfields so planes could quickly use them. Among them were several Amphibious Truck Companies—the 471st\, 473rd\, and 476th— that trained at Camp Gordon Johnston. Landing under fire\, they moved supplies\, carried ammunition\, rescued stranded equipment\, and evacuated wounded soldiers from the beaches using DUKW amphibious vehicles. These units served alongside the 4th Marine Division and took part in heavy fighting. Throughout the month\, the Camp Gordon Johnston Museum will have a special exhibit commemorating the anniversary of the Iwo Jima Battle. Displays will include photos\, video\, and artifacts including some from the Marine Corps. \n  \nCamp Gordon Johnston WWII Museum is located in Carrabelle\, directly across from Carrabelle Public Beach Park at 1873 Hwy 98 West. SUMMARY:2026 Camp Gordon Johnston Veterans Parade
DESCRIPTION:Camp Gordon Johnston WWII Museum proudly presents the Annual Camp Gordon Johnston Veterans Parade on Saturday\, March 14\, at 10:45 am ET in Carrabelle\, FL. This event honors and celebrates our country’s remaining WWII veterans as well as recognizes and salutes all veterans from WWII to present. All veterans\, their family\, friends and the general public are invited to join in this meaningful celebration of our military veterans. The museum needs the community’s participation and support to make this year’s event more special than ever for our veterans. \nThe Camp Gordon Johnston Parade pays tribute to all veterans of all branches of service. This community parade will feature vintage museum vehicles like the WWII DUKW\, Willis Jeep\, and German Lieferwagen as well as restored military vehicles from the Military Vehicle Preservation Association and Florida Military Vehicle Heritage Group. In addition\, the parade will be joined by several veteran organizations\, motorcycle groups\, Shriners clubs\, many businesses and community organizations. Military and police vehicles\, golf carts\, classic cars\, patriotic walkers\, and even some patriotic pets will wind through downtown Carrabelle along US Hwy 98.  \nCamp Gordon Johnston Museum invites everyone to participate in the parade and there is no cost to be in the parade.
